Heather Wickes, BEd
Principal Accompanist, Australian Welsh Male Choir
Heather has been a pianist for most of her life having commenced formal training with Christine Pederson, student of Ronald Farren-Price at the late age of 8 1/2 years. Some 20 years later with a Bachelor of Education Degree from Melbourne State College, secondary teaching career and a family of 4, Heather made a career change and filled in a "in demand" void for piano accompanists in Melbourne and the Mornington Peninsula.
Heather’s accompanying commitments involve the likes of Melbourne Opera, Savoy Opera, FAMPAC and having performed, musical directed, rehearsed, auditioned and coached well over 100 theatre shows and productions locally. Heather continues to support the local amateur theatre scene.
Heather has worked in a classroom capacity in various schools in Melbourne and is currently teaching piano at Mt. Martha Primary and Kingsley Park primary school.
For the last 20 years Heather has been accompanist and choral conductor for the Australian Youth Choir, and is presently managing and training the Cheltenham branch of the choir. Heather is also principal accompanist for the Mornington Peninsula Chorale.
When the occasion arises, Heather helps out in the role of emergency organist for churches in need of her services on Sunday mornings.
Heather is enjoying her time with the Australian Welsh Male Choir and looks forward to a long association in the future.
